For three days during the first weekend in June, Acanthus Publishing joined 2,000 other publishing industry professionals and over 30,000 attendees at the Javits Center in New York City in our first ever booth at BookExpo America (BEA).

BEA offers an unparalleled opportunity for book promotion, networking, and relationship building in a dynamic environment that fuels the passion for books and sparks new ideas for booksellers, librarians, publishers large and small, authors, and educators from around the world. Acanthus’s staff of five, including Paige, Carolyn, Sarah, Catherine, and Jenai, promoted ten of our hottest titles in an event that turned out to be an astounding success.

We were able to distribute dozens of copies of our authors’ books to members of the press, national and niche booksellers, educators, and librarians. Considering our diverse range of topics, we seemed to have a title that piqued the curiosity of every passerby.

A highlight of the trip was the Friday evening award ceremony for Dr. Kathryn Seifert, whose book, How Children Become Violent, won a bronze medal in the Independent Book Publisher’s Awards. Congratulations, Dr. Kathy! Oh, and the Stephen Colbert breakfast wasn’t bad either! Needless to say, a great time was had by all.
